Use ideas: Thanksgiving dinner conversation starters

I love intentional conversation. Going to the next level beyond weather, job titles, or even family updates is my favorite.

And Thanksgiving is a time for pure, thankful hearts to gather as a family and converse sweetly around a table; so no one is going to be awkward, get drunk, or sit without anything to say right? Probably 100% wrong.

But that’s ok! Sometimes we just need a little prompt to get us all on the same level. It’s growing more and more important to see how our family and friends are truly doing. In this day of social media perfection, it’s hard to find the courage, (let alone the conversational transition) that allows you to dive deep, to open up, and really see each other in a true light.

So enjoy these conversation cards. They are small prompts, kind of a twist on the traditional “Thankful for” circle around the table. Each card has a different prompt, (Something I learned, something I don't regret, Someone I met, Something I let go, etc.) We did this last year with my family, and though the questions seem relatively light, they work great as a gate for deeper conversation!

Here’s how they work:

1) Download the free ‘Thankful for’ printable

2) Print the cards on a sturdy 4x6 card stock. Drinks + food + paper = make sure you use a heavy card stock. The pdf is set up as a 4x6” paper. This is a good size to fit the card nicely on a dinner plate, and it doesn’t overwhelm the tabletop either! Here’s more info on setting your home printer up to do this.

3) Everyone takes turns reading their card aloud. It’s like a traditional “I’m thankful for” circle, but it’s a little more guided, and hopefully takes your table into some deeper conversations!

Happy conversing peeps. And happy Thanksgiving!
